The Salem’s Lot remake is no longer upcoming: Gary Dauberman’s feature adaptation of Stephen King’s novel was released on October 3, 2024. Its simple, ominous hook—a writer returns to his hometown and finds it under vampire attack—makes it a natural pick for viewers drawn to small-town horror and for readers curious about how King’s story translates to film.
What is the 2024 Salem’s Lot movie about?
Stephen King’s official film listing describes author Ben Mears returning to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot, only to discover that a bloodthirsty vampire is preying on the town. That premise puts a familiar conflict at the center of the film: a homecoming that becomes an attempt to understand and confront a threat spreading through an ordinary community.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does the film connect to Stephen King’s book?
The movie is an adaptation of King’s 1975 novel, which is the direct source for readers who want the story in its original form. The official film page credits King as novelist; it does not, by itself, establish how closely the film follows the book scene by scene. Treat the novel as the place to experience King’s original version, and the movie as Dauberman’s screen adaptation.
