Genesis Rodriguez plays Josie. She takes on the Season 2 Lioness role after Cruz Manuelos, the central Lioness recruit in Season 1. Josie and Cruz are different characters, brought into Joe’s operation in different seasons.
Why does Joe recruit Josie?
Josie’s uncle is Alvaro Carrillo, a cartel leader connected to the season’s abduction plot. That family tie makes her a potential way into the threat Joe’s team is pursuing. Joe brings her into the Lioness program because of the operational opportunity her connection presents.

TV Insider’s October 27, 2024 coverage describes Joe onboarding Josie and identifies her as Alvaro’s niece. The character’s family connection is part of the mission setup, not evidence that Josie herself is a cartel member.
When does Josie enter the Season 2 story?
The official episode guide places the search for a new Lioness and Josie’s training in the season’s early episodes:
- Season 2, Episode 2, “I Love My Country”: Paramount+’s October 27, 2024 synopsis says Joe and her team travel to Iraq after identifying a new Lioness.
- Season 2, Episode 3, “Along Came a Spider”: Paramount+’s November 3, 2024 page says training begins for Captain Josie Carrillo.
This establishes her recruitment and training as an early Season 2 storyline; it does not make her the same operative as Cruz.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How is Josie different from Cruz?
Cruz is the preceding Season 1 Lioness, while Josie is Joe’s new Season 2 recruit. Their links to the operation also differ: Josie’s relevance to the mission is tied to her uncle’s connection to the cartel. The available character coverage supports that role distinction, but not a ranking of their abilities or performances.
