The argument that Tessa Blanchard’s return only set TNA back rests on one judgment: bringing back a performer whose public allegations were still unresolved, and who still drew hostile crowd reactions, carried a reputational and locker-room cost that the booking did not offset. This is commentary. The reporting does not show lost ticket sales, falling viewership, or that the return caused her 2026 release, and those gaps matter for how far the headline can be pushed.
What TNA did, and when
TNA was then known as Impact Wrestling when Blanchard left in 2020. The sequence that followed is the basis for everything else in this piece:
- 2020: Blanchard left after a strained relationship with the company. Reporting says she was stripped of the women’s world title and released.
- December 2024: She returned at Final Resolution and then worked a program with Jordynne Grace.
- January 2025: In an interview with Slam Wrestling, she said the goal was “taking my locker room back, taking back my spot in the world of professional wrestling, and showing who Tessa Blanchard has become.”
- March 2025: POST Wrestling reported on her interview and noted that she did not directly address the allegations, describing personal growth and life away from wrestling instead.
- October 2, 2025: A TNA article said Blanchard was suspended after an on-screen assault on reporter Gia Miller at Slammiversary, that Miller later asked for the suspension to be lifted, and promoted a Blanchard–Miller match at Bound For Glory.
- June 17, 2026: TNA confirmed Blanchard’s release as part of a workforce reduction.
The allegations, and what is established
The allegations that followed Blanchard out of TNA came from wrestlers, including Allysin Kay and Chelsea Green, and others. They included bullying and an alleged racial slur directed at La Rosa Negra, in an incident said to have taken place in 2017. These are accusations attributed to their sources. None of the reporting reviewed for this piece cites a court, regulator, or formal investigation that found misconduct, and the article does not treat them as proven.
That distinction is important for the argument. A company can reasonably decide that unresolved accusations are not a bar to employment, and critics can reasonably argue that a company that brings back a figure in this position takes on the risk of those accusations staying in the room. The case below depends on the second view.

Why the return was a real risk
The audience response was visible
POST Wrestling reported that fans chanted “She’s a racist” at events during the return. That is evidence of how a portion of the crowd received her, not a measure of how most viewers felt. Still, it shows the controversy was not a background detail the booking could ignore.
The booking kept the controversy in front of viewers
The Grace program placed her in the women’s division for a sustained run. The later storyline with Gia Miller gave the return a second, more pointed focus. TNA’s own October 2025 presentation built that storyline around an on-screen assault on a reporter. That is fiction inside a wrestling show, and it should not be read as evidence of real workplace conduct. The commentary point is narrower: a storyline centered on violence toward a journalist, placed on a performer already accused of bullying, gave critics an easy frame and gave TNA little room to avoid it.

Talent relations were exposed
The allegations came from people who still work in the business. Bringing Blanchard back meant asking that locker room to share screen time and storylines with someone some of its members had publicly criticized. Whether that produced real friction is not documented in the reporting reviewed. The risk is an inference from the structure of the situation, and it should be read that way.
The strongest case for the booking
The counterargument is not weak. Blanchard was a former champion with a clear storyline role. TNA could reasonably see a recognizable name returning to the women’s division as a way to generate story and attention. Her January 2025 framing, about reclaiming her place, fit that logic.

She also said she had changed, and not every figure in wrestling took a hard line. Former TNA leader Scott D’Amore, quoted by POST Wrestling on March 19, 2025, said: “No ill will for me for Tessa.” That is a personal view, not a company position, and it does not resolve the allegations. But it shows that the people around the business did not all reach the same conclusion, which weakens any claim that the return was indefensible on its face.
The release, and Blanchard’s account of it
TNA’s June 17, 2026 statement said: “TNA Wrestling today announced a workforce reduction, designed to streamline operations and sharpen strategic focus and profitability.” The statement did not name Blanchard and did not link her release to the controversy.

Blanchard’s account, reported by PWInsider, is that the arrangement first allowed her to work for both TNA and CMLL, but changing business conditions led TNA to ask her to choose. She said: “And eventually, I was asked to make a decision: either continue with TNA or continue with CMLL.” Sports Illustrated reported that she chose to focus on CMLL. This is her explanation. It is not an independently confirmed account of TNA’s internal reasoning.
The release therefore cannot be used as proof that the return failed, and the controversy cannot be used as the explanation for the exit. Each piece of evidence stands on its own.

Verdict
The headline is a judgment, not a measured outcome. TNA accepted a reputational and talent-relations risk when it returned Blanchard while the allegations remained unresolved in public and the audience responded hostilely. Whether that risk turned into a lasting cost depends on figures that the reporting does not provide. The case for “sets the company back” is strongest on the booking decisions and weakest on causation.
