In a letter posted May 30, 2025, she said she had re-recorded less than a quarter of it, kept reaching a stopping point, and felt the original was the one of her first six albums that could not be improved by redoing it. She gave no release date.
Why the re-recording kept stopping
Swift described Reputation as unusually tied to the period of her life in which she made it. In her May 30, 2025 letter, she wrote that she kept hitting a stopping point when she tried to remake it. She characterized the album’s emotional world through defiance, a longing to be understood while feeling deliberately misunderstood, desperate hope, and a snarl shaped by shame.
Her explanation was about the creative challenge, not a stated legal or practical obstacle. She also said she considered Reputation the only one of her first six albums that could not be improved by redoing it—not only in its music, but in its photographs and videos. She said that judgment was why she kept putting the project off. Swift’s official letter is the primary source for her account.
What she had—and had not—recorded
Swift said she had not re-recorded even a quarter of Reputation when she wrote the letter. That is a snapshot of the album’s status on May 30, 2025, not confirmation of its status after that date. The sources available here do not establish a later recording update.

She also said she had completely re-recorded her self-titled debut album and loved how it sounded. That statement refers to the debut, not to Reputation. Swift described the future of both projects as dependent on the right time and on whether fans wanted them; she did not announce a release date for either.
How buying back her music changed the stakes
Swift said she had bought back her music and related creative assets. Good Morning America’s May 30, 2025 report says the acquisition covered the master recordings of her first six albums and came after the success of her Taylor’s Version releases and the Eras Tour.

That changed the context for any future re-recording: Swift said a project that might re-emerge would be a celebration, rather than an effort driven by sadness or longing for music she could not own. Her letter did not say that buying back the masters meant the re-recordings were cancelled, nor did it set a timetable.
Could there still be Vault tracks?
Yes, Swift left open the possibility of releasing unreleased Reputation Vault tracks if fans were interested. She did not say when they might appear, whether they would accompany a full re-recording, or that the album was close to completion. A possible Vault release and a released Reputation (Taylor’s Version) are distinct possibilities, not the same confirmed product.

What the clues do—and don’t—confirm
A re-recorded version of “Look What You Made Me Do” has appeared in screen promotion and television, including a Wilderness teaser and The Handmaid’s Tale, as Good Morning America reported. A song’s appearance in a screen project is not proof that a complete album re-recording has been released.
Swift’s May 2025 letter remains the latest direct status statement established here. Predictions based on Easter eggs, fan theories, or earlier promotional clues are speculation unless supported by a later direct statement or official release announcement. The original 2017 Reputation album is a separate release from the unreleased Taylor’s Version.
