Taylor Momsen, who played Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl, reportedly left the series because she wanted to focus on her music career. Her exit seemed abrupt to her co-stars: a November 2025 report says they realized she was gone when her character was missing from the following week’s script.
Why did Taylor Momsen leave Gossip Girl?
A November 6, 2025 IMDb News result, attributed to Collider, summarized Momsen’s account on Call Her Daddy as a decision to concentrate on music. The report identifies the interview as a conversation with host Alex Cooper. Because the interview itself was not available for independent review, this should be treated as a reported explanation rather than a verified direct quotation from Momsen. Read the IMDb News result.

Why did her departure seem so sudden to the cast?
The same report says Momsen did not make a farewell announcement to her co-stars. They discovered she would not be returning when she was absent from the next week’s script. That account explains why the exit could feel abrupt to the cast even though the report also says Momsen had been planning to leave.
What is known about the timing?
The report describes Momsen’s departure as a Season 4 exit, but it does not give the original episode’s airdate. The phrase “15 years later” in the headline framing therefore should not be read as a precisely established interval based on the available account.
