The disagreement was not simply about nudity: it reflected different views of whether the image was an ordinary family moment or one that should have stayed private.
What PerthNow reported about the photo
PerthNow said Sursok posted the image while on holiday in Montana with her husband, Sean McEwan, and their daughters, Phoenix and Lennon, then reported as five and one years old. The outlet described Sursok and the girls as posing naked. The original Instagram post was not independently verified for this account, so that description is attributed to PerthNow.
The report reproduced a caption thanking Montana and the accommodation account @yourmontanagetaway for the stay, followed by the joke: “You stole our hearts and by the looks of it, our clothes.”
Why some viewers praised it
PerthNow reported that some responses praised the image for encouraging body positivity. From that perspective, the photo could be read as a relaxed family moment and a rejection of shame around bodies rather than as something inherently improper.

Why others objected
Other responses, reported by PerthNow and a contemporaneous Spanish-language article, questioned whether personal photos of young children should be shared publicly. That concern centers on the children’s privacy and future digital footprint, not only on how viewers interpret nudity. These are reported viewpoints, not a settled rule about parenting or social-media use.
Sursok’s reported response
PerthNow said Sursok responded in an Instagram Story by arguing that Western culture treats bodies as taboo and shameful, and by asking viewers to consider why they interpreted the image negatively. The outlet attributed this sentence to her Story: “Our Western culture is filled with taboo about bodies.”

PerthNow also quoted her as saying, “We are taught to view bodies at dirty, shameful, and imperfect.” The wording here follows the report. It attributed this question to her as well: “Maybe sit with yourself and ask why the backs of three people goes to something sinister in your mind.” The Story itself was not independently inspected, so these words are presented as quotations reported by PerthNow, not as independently verified transcript.

The July 2020 reports document examples of praise and criticism, but they do not provide a systematic count of reactions or establish what most followers thought. The phrase “divides the internet” captures the reported contrast in views; it should not be taken as evidence of a measured, representative split.
