Why did Sum 41 cancel its Australian tour?
On December 4, 2024, Sum 41 cancelled its Brisbane sideshow after Whibley was diagnosed with pneumonia. The following day, the band announced that the rest of its planned December 4–14 Australian run could not go ahead. In its statement, the band said that, under the guidance of Australian doctors, “it’s clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform.” The Music reported the announcement and diagnosis on December 5, 2024.

Was the tour cancelled or postponed?
The Australian dates were cancelled, not postponed. In February 2025, Whibley apologized to Australian fans and explained that the festival appearances could not be moved: “Unfortunately, we couldn’t move any of those shows ’cause they were festivals.” Rolling Stone Australia reported his later explanation. The available accounts do not provide a detailed treatment or recovery timeline.
Which Australian dates were cancelled?
The cancelled schedule included the Brisbane sideshow on December 4 and these Good Things Festival appearances and standalone shows, as reported by Rolling Stone Australia:

Will ticket holders get a refund?
Refund instructions depended on the event. The band’s general announcement directed people who bought sideshow tickets to refund information from their ticketing agencies. For the Sydney Hordern Pavilion show, the venue said tickets would be refunded automatically to the original payment method, with patrons asked to allow approximately 30 business days and no action required. That was historical guidance for that cancelled event, not a current promise about refund timing. Check the ticketing agency or event organizer for any remaining account-specific questions. The Hordern Pavilion’s event page gave its venue-specific instructions.
