What was Snoop Dogg’s role at the Paris Olympics?
NBC announced in January 2024 that Snoop would join its Paris coverage as a special correspondent, building on his earlier Olympic work. In its June programming announcement, NBC said he would appear on most nights of Primetime in Paris, joining host Mike Tirico after attending events, meeting athletes and their families, and exploring the city. NBC also included Peacock in its distribution plan for the coverage; that does not establish whether the 2024 segments remain available in Peacock’s current catalog.
In other words, Snoop was a broadcaster’s correspondent whose assignments put him among the athletes and spectators—not a competitor, coach, or Games official.
Was Snoop Dogg an official Olympic mascot?
No. “Unofficial mascot” describes the way viewers responded to his exuberant presence; it was not an official designation from the Games or the IOC. NBC executive producer Molly Solomon called him an “Ambassador of Happiness” at an August 2024 conference, but that was her characterization of his effect on the coverage, not a formal appointment.

How did he become Team USA’s cheerleader?
NBC gave him a visible, on-location role
NBC’s plan placed Snoop at events and in conversations with athletes and their families, then brought his reports into the network’s nightly Olympic programming. That mix of access and personality made his support for American competitors a recurring part of the broadcast rather than a single studio appearance.
The approach matched NBC’s wider coverage strategy
NBC’s Olympic production chief said the team had brainstormed the role over the preceding year and a half. The network was also using entertainment figures to reach viewers beyond the traditional sports audience. In an Associated Press account of that strategy, Snoop put the idea simply: “We speak to a broader audience.”

He already had an Olympic comedy connection
Paris was not Snoop’s first Olympic assignment. During the Tokyo Games in 2021, he and Kevin Hart presented comedic highlights for Peacock. TIME later recalled their viral dressage commentary. Paris changed the format: the Tokyo work centered on comedic highlights, while the 2024 role made Snoop an on-location NBC correspondent.

- It gets the audience impression right: Snoop became a recognizable, upbeat presence associated with cheering on Team USA.
- It is not his official title: NBC called him a special correspondent; “Ambassador of Happiness” was an executive’s description, not an IOC appointment.
- It reflects a media role: His appearances were part of NBC’s entertainment-forward Olympic coverage, not an official Games function.
NBC’s 2026 retrospective later described him as a Team USA “hype man” and ambassador during Paris 2024. Those are NBC’s retrospective terms for the association, not formal titles held at the Games.
