“Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke,” the Hindi song associated with Kannada film KD: The Devil, drew criticism over suggestive lyrics and choreography, including a repeated move involving a slipping pallu. News reports said its lyrical video was removed from YouTube after complaints and official scrutiny. Director Prem apologised and said he would rewrite the song; Nora Fatehi later said she had not approved or known about the Hindi version.
Which song is at the centre of the controversy?
“Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” is the Hindi version of the Kannada song “Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse,” associated with KD: The Devil. India Today reported that the Hindi song was released on March 14, 2026. The two titles refer to versions of the song in different languages, not separate controversies. India Today’s explainer traces the song’s release and the ensuing reaction.
The Indian Express reported that the track had nearly 5 million YouTube views by Tuesday, March 17, 2026. That is a dated figure, not a current view count. The Indian Express report also covered the criticism and responses.
Why did viewers criticise the lyrics and choreography?
Reports described criticism of suggestive double meanings in the lyrics and choreography, particularly a repeated movement in which the pallu—the loose end of a sari or dupatta—is made to slip. Singer Armaan Malik criticised the song in a post reproduced by The Indian Express: “This showed up on my timeline and I had to replay it just to make sure I heard it right. Sad to see commercial songwriting hit a new low.”

That phrase was Malik’s judgement. Terms such as “obscene” and “vulgar” appeared in allegations and public criticism reported by the news outlets; they should not be mistaken for a court’s finding.
Was the song removed or banned?
India Today reported that the lyrical video had been removed from YouTube by March 17, after complaints and amid official scrutiny. The Indian Express reported that Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha the song had been removed from YouTube. These reports support saying the video was removed; they do not establish a final judicial ruling that the song was “banned.”

What did the National Commission for Women do?
India Today reported that the National Commission for Women took suo motu cognisance of media reports alleging obscenity and vulgarity. The commission’s statement, as reproduced by India Today, said it had acted “in exercise of its powers under the NCW Act, 1990” on those media reports. Taking cognisance means the issue came under the commission’s scrutiny; it is not itself a final determination that the allegations were proved. India Today’s report on the commission’s action describes that step.
What did director Prem say?
The Indian Express reported that director Prem apologised and said he would rewrite the song. His apology was: “I did not intend to write a vulgar song or to hurt anybody’s feelings.” That statement expresses his intent and response; it does not settle the dispute about how viewers interpreted the lyrics or visuals.
