Ryan Reynolds’s personal earnings from Aviation Gin have not been publicly established in the primary transaction documents. Diageo’s much-repeated “up to $610 million” figure was the maximum potential consideration for its acquisition of Aviation Gin and the wider Davos Brands portfolio—not a disclosed payment to Reynolds. Diageo said he would retain an ongoing ownership interest, but it did not disclose his stake or the terms of that interest.
How much did Ryan Reynolds make from Aviation Gin?
The precise amount is unknown from the available public transaction disclosures. Diageo’s 2020 announcement identifies Reynolds as a co-owner and says he would retain an ongoing ownership interest after the acquisition, but it gives no percentage or economic terms. The announcement and Diageo’s later interim filing do not state his investment cost, personal cash proceeds, taxes, or profit.
That means the public figures cannot be used to calculate what Reynolds personally made. In particular, the $610 million ceiling was not his personal cheque, and the documents do not establish that all potential contingent consideration was paid.
What did Diageo buy, and what did the $610 million mean?
On 17 August 2020, Diageo announced it had agreed to acquire Aviation Gin LLC and Davos Brands LLC. Davos’s portfolio also included Astral Tequila, Sombra Mezcal, and TYKU Sake. The announced total consideration could reach $610 million: $335 million upfront, plus up to $275 million in additional consideration tied to Aviation Gin’s performance over ten years. Diageo’s announcement described the maximum and its conditions.

Diageo completed the acquisition on 30 September 2020. In its subsequent interim filing, the company reported $337 million in upfront cash and up to $275 million in contingent consideration over ten years, linked to performance targets. The $337 million is the post-closing figure Diageo reported; the $335 million was the amount stated in the original announcement. The contingent amount was conditional, not a guaranteed payment. Diageo’s interim report records the completed transaction’s accounting figures.

Why did Ryan Reynolds sell Aviation Gin?
The deal was a corporate acquisition of Aviation Gin LLC and Davos Brands LLC by Diageo, not a publicly disclosed personal share sale with terms specific to Reynolds. Diageo said the acquisition would support its participation in the U.S. super-premium gin segment and fit its strategy of acquiring high-growth brands with attractive margins. That was Diageo’s stated rationale for the transaction.

Reynolds’s announcement statement explains why he became involved, but not what he earned: “A little over two years ago, I became an owner of Aviation Gin because I love the taste of Aviation more than any other spirit.” Diageo also credited him with creative direction and said he would retain an ongoing ownership interest after the acquisition. The announcement does not say that his ownership ended in a full cash-out.
What did Diageo say about Aviation Gin’s growth?
Diageo cited historical figures attributed in its acquisition announcement to IWSR 2019. They were part of the company’s explanation for the deal, not a statement of current brand performance:

The transaction disclosures establish the acquisition structure and Diageo’s reported consideration, but not Reynolds’s personal economics. They do not reveal his ownership percentage, original investment, personal proceeds, tax burden, or net gain. Without those details, assigning him a share of the headline transaction value—or estimating a personal payout—is speculation.
