Sean Rueter’s contemporaneous April 7, 2024 account for Cageside Seats provides more detail about the exchange. Rueter reported that Paul Heyman scolded Chris Van Vliet after Van Vliet directed a question to Heyman. Reigns rejected Van Vliet’s follow-up and chose another media member. According to Rueter, that attendee began by following Heyman’s direction about addressing Reigns. Reigns then called on the room to acknowledge him; a woman booed, and Reigns had her leave before continuing. This sequence is Rueter’s account, not detail independently established by the WWE clip page.
Why was the attendee asked to leave?
In Rueter’s account, the immediate trigger was the attendee booing after Reigns told the room to acknowledge him. The available sources do not establish a further explanation from Reigns or WWE for the demand that she leave.

Was the incident staged?
That remains unresolved in the available accounts. The attendee was not identified. Rueter wrote: “The booted ‘reporter’ was never identified either, so it’s possible she was planted for this moment.” He also noted that wrestling press conferences include journalists and content creators, and said it would not be surprising if the moment were legitimate. Those are qualified possibilities, not proof either way; the available sources do not establish whether the exchange was staged.
How the press-conference moment fits WrestleMania XL
The exchange happened after Night One, not during a match. WWE’s results record says The Rock and Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth “Freakin” Rollins that night. On Night Two, Cody Rhodes defeated Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The press-conference incident and the championship result are separate events.
