WWE said Rhea Ripley vacated the Women’s World Championship on April 15, 2024, because she was injured after an assault by Liv Morgan. WWE did not identify the injury or specify treatment in its announcement. Becky Lynch won a battle royal on April 22 to become champion.
Why did Rhea Ripley vacate the title?
WWE’s April 15, 2024 announcement said Ripley had to relinquish the championship because of an injury after an assault by her longtime rival, Liv Morgan. That is WWE’s stated explanation for the vacancy.
The announcement does not name a body part, give a clinical diagnosis, describe treatment or surgery, or provide a recovery timeline. It presents WWE’s account of the injury in its wrestling narrative; it is not a medical statement from a named clinician. A more specific diagnosis should not be inferred from this announcement.
When did the title change hands?
Ripley’s reign ended on April 15, 2024. WWE’s title history records it as lasting 379 days, from April 1, 2023, to April 15, 2024. The championship had a different name when her reign began: WWE records that it was renamed the Women’s World Championship in June 2023.
