The awards organization cited his military service and aviation experience, as well as his creation of the Invictus Games, in its explanation of the honor.
When and where was the ceremony?
The awards took place on January 19, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Actor and pilot John Travolta hosted the event. The awards organization announced Harry’s planned induction on January 10, before Kiddie Hawk Air Academy confirmed it in a January 24 post-event release. The awards organization’s announcement and Kiddie Hawk Air Academy’s release reported the event details.
Why did organizers recognize Prince Harry?
In its advance announcement, the organization described Harry as a British Army veteran and pilot who served for ten years. It pointed to his flying training missions in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, combat missions in Afghanistan, and creation of the Invictus Games. This was the organization’s stated rationale; the announcement did not set out formal judging criteria.
What did Prince Harry say about the induction?
Kiddie Hawk Air Academy’s January 24, 2024 release attributed these remarks to Harry: “I am proud to be recognized amongst such a dynamic and inspiring group of individuals,” said Prince Harry. “For me flying has been a transcendent experience; a close encounter with magic, an invitation to both protect freedom and to feel free.”

Who else was honored?
Harry was inducted as a Living Legend alongside Fred George, Steve Hinton and Marc Parent. These inductions were distinct from the program’s category awards: Lauren Sánchez received the Elling Halvorson Vertical Flight Hall of Fame Award, while Mark Burns, Laurans A. Mendelson, Kyle Clark, Linden Blue and Lance Toland were among the other named award recipients. These names and distinctions were reported by Kiddie Hawk Air Academy in 2024.
What was the event like, and who benefits?
In a recap, Stephen Hofer, president of Aerlex Law Group, described a black-tie gala combining aviation and Hollywood. Hofer reported that Morgan Freeman and Kenny G performed, and that Travolta asked Harry and Jeff Bezos to talk about their first airplane flights. These atmosphere and program details come from Hofer’s account.
Kiddie Hawk Air Academy produced the awards and says its mission is to educate children about aviation and spark their interest in it. Hofer’s recap says proceeds from Living Legends events support the academy’s work introducing children to aviation through Kiddie Hawk Trainers.
