The idea for Brothers grew organically among the actors and screenwriter Macon Blair, rather than starting with a conventional offer to read a finished script.
Why Dinklage and Brolin chose a comedy
In a Moviefone interview published October 15, 2024, Dinklage put the reason simply: “Josh and I wanted to make a comedy and we wanted to play brothers.” He described the project as developing through collaboration with Brolin and screenwriter Macon Blair. Rather than beginning with a standard first read of a completed screenplay, the story gradually became part of his creative instincts—what he described as seeping into his DNA. What kind of comedy they set out to make
Director Max Barbakow described the intended feel as a “romp,” balancing anarchic comedy with unexpected emotion. In a ComingSoon interview published October 17, 2024, he said the cast’s willingness to experiment helped create the film’s energy. That aim suggests the comedy was not just a vehicle for the pairing: the filmmakers wanted the wildness of a crime-road-trip story to coexist with moments of feeling. How the premise puts the brothers together
Brothers is a 2024 action comedy directed by Barbakow. Apple TV’s US listing describes Moke (Brolin) as a reformed criminal whose effort to go straight is disrupted when he reunites with his twin, Jady (Dinklage). The reunion turns into a cross-country road trip and a planned score, with family tensions complicating Moke’s attempt to leave crime behind. Apple TV’s US listing for Brothers
