Parvati Shallow has said she does not want to return to the U.S. version of Survivor—but her answer has never been an unconditional no. She has described the game as exhausting and her reputation as a strategic liability, while also saying that friends, fear of missing out and the prospect of playing with Sandra Diaz-Twine could change her mind. Her later win on an international edition makes an important distinction: reluctance about returning to the U.S. game did not mean leaving every Survivor behind.
Why Parvati says she does not want to play again
In a TVLine interview, Shallow put her immediate reaction plainly: “Every time people ask me this, I’m like, ‘No, I don’t wanna go back and play Survivor.’” She then explained the contradiction behind that answer: “I have a love-hate relationship with the game and it’s like an extended family for me, so it is like a sicko family reunion every time they ask me to come back.” TVLine’s interview captures both sides: the game is difficult to revisit, but its relationships give it a powerful pull.
There is also a strategic cost to being a returning player with Shallow’s history. Her reputation makes her an obvious target, so a return would mean entering with other players already aware of her strengths and past gameplay. That does not make a return impossible; it helps explain why the idea can appeal to her emotionally while still feeling unattractive as a game decision.
What could persuade her to say yes?
Shallow’s answer leaves room for circumstances to change. She has said she feels FOMO when friends might be playing, and she wondered aloud what it would be like to form an alliance with Sandra Diaz-Twine, a fellow winner and longtime rival. “That curiosity for me might be enough to get me to say yes,” she told TVLine, while also questioning whether Sandra would be a loyal ally.

That is a conditional possibility, not a promise to return. Her comments point to relationships and curiosity as potential reasons to reconsider, rather than a standing desire to compete again.
Why she played Winners at War despite earlier doubts
Shallow’s participation in Survivor: Winners at War illustrates how a special season could override her reluctance. In a PAPER interview, she recalled that she had recently had a baby and had said she would not play again, but an all-winners season felt too significant to miss: “the FOMO would be too intense for me.” She described being sleep-deprived and rusty, yet feeling unable to pass up what she saw as a family reunion.

She also said the audience response to that season helped her heal after earlier backlash. The experience was therefore more complicated than simply wanting to resume competition: personal timing, the rare all-winners format and the chance to reconnect with the Survivor community all mattered.
Her Survivor 50 decision was specific to that season
In March 2025, Shallow told TV Insider she would not be on Survivor 50. She framed the decision as part of a broader career shift: “I’m moving out of reality competition, and I’m moving into host and executive producer roles and creating.” That was a dated, season-specific decision—not proof that she had ruled out every future appearance in every edition of the franchise.

She later returned to an international Survivor edition
Shallow went on to compete in Australian Survivor: Australia V The World, an international edition, and won. WIRED’s interview documents her discussion of the experience and her view that she had outgrown the “Black Widow” role. Endemol Shine Australia announced her win.
The distinction matters when interpreting her earlier comments: saying she did not want to return to the U.S. game at one point is not the same as rejecting all future Survivor opportunities. Her choices have depended on the particular season, timing and format.
