What does MS NOW stand for?
MS NOW is the expanded name “My Source News Opinion World.” It replaces MSNBC as the network’s brand; it is not an abbreviation for Microsoft and NBC. In its August 18, 2025 announcement, the network introduced the name and described its identity with the line, “You know who we are, and what we do.” Read the announcement from MS NOW.
Why did MSNBC change its name?
The change accompanied a corporate separation: the network said it was leaving NBCUniversal and NBC News and moving to Versant. MS NOW said the separation would give it room to chart a distinct path. Versant’s SEC-filed information statement describes the new identity as a distinct brand for breaking news and opinion journalism. The name change was therefore part of a broader shift in corporate identity, not simply a new label for MSNBC.
When did MSNBC become MS NOW?
The dates distinguish the announcement from the change itself. MS NOW announced the planned rebrand on August 18, 2025; Versant’s SEC filing says it became effective in November 2025. Versant’s SEC-filed information statement also reports that the former MSNBC identity drew over 14 million viewers weekly in 2024, citing Nielsen; had 30 million monthly unique digital visitors in 2024; and recorded nearly 160 million total downloads across its audio portfolio. Those are company-reported figures about 2024, not measures of MS NOW’s audience after the rebrand.

What changed for viewers?
MS NOW said its familiar hosts and journalists would remain. That statement addresses the people viewers recognize; it does not establish that every program, staff role, distribution arrangement, or editorial process stayed the same.
Platform and membership information should be treated separately from the name change. An official FAQ search excerpt listed Roku, tvOS, Fire TV, Comcast Xumo, and Android TV, and said a membership was planned for later in 2026. Because the FAQ page could not be opened, those details do not establish current app availability, whether membership has launched, its price, or what it includes. How does the later NBCUniversal and Sky announcement relate?
It is a separate corporate event. Comcast announced another plan involving NBCUniversal and Sky in June 2026; that later announcement is not the Versant separation associated with MSNBC’s move to MS NOW.
