Morgan Wallen was arrested in April 2024 after police alleged that he threw a chair from the rooftop of a downtown Nashville bar, where it landed near two officers. The initial arrest included three felony reckless-endangerment counts and one misdemeanor disorderly-conduct count. The case later ended with a conditional plea to two misdemeanor reckless-endangerment counts, not a felony conviction.
What police said happened at Chief’s
According to Metro Nashville police and the arrest affidavit, on the night of April 7, 2024, a chair was thrown from the rooftop of Chief’s, a six-story bar on Broadway in downtown Nashville. The Associated Press reported that the affidavit placed the chair about three feet from two officers. Those details describe the allegation at the time; they should not be treated as a finding that Wallen threw the chair. Associated Press, April 8, 2024.

What were the initial felony charges?
Wallen was booked early April 8, 2024, on three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, according to the Associated Press. These were the charges associated with the initial arrest; they are not the final outcome of the case.
How the case was resolved
In December 2024, Wallen entered a conditional plea to two misdemeanor reckless-endangerment counts under Tennessee’s Diversion Statute. ABC News reported that this type of plea does not result in a conviction. The Associated Press reported that the sentence included seven days in a DUI education center and two years’ probation. ABC News, December 2024; Associated Press, October 2025.

What later police video reported
In October 2025, the Associated Press reported that police video showed Wallen denying that he threw the chair. The AP also reported his earlier December 2024 plea and his April 2024 public statement accepting responsibility. The reported denial and the later plea are distinct parts of the record: the video report describes what he said, while the plea describes how the case was resolved in court.
