The studio said it had learned of an allegation, initially assumed his innocence, and spoke with people involved before deciding it needed to act in keeping with its principles and standards. The announcement followed renewed claims about Beahm’s 2020 Twitch ban. The claims, the studio’s decision and Beahm’s response are distinct accounts—not a public finding of criminal conduct.
Why did Midnight Society end its relationship with Dr Disrespect?
In its June 24, 2024 statement, Midnight Society said it had learned of an allegation the previous Friday, assumed Beahm’s innocence and began speaking with parties involved. It then said it was terminating its relationship with him immediately to maintain the studio’s principles and standards. The studio also referred to its responsibility toward its 55 developers and their families. Game Informer reported the statement and its wording.
The studio did not publicly announce a criminal finding. Its statement described an internal decision about its relationship with a co-founder, not a verdict on every allegation surrounding the Twitch ban.
What was alleged, and what did Beahm say?
Former Twitch employees’ claims
From June 21 to 23, 2024, former Twitch account director Cody Conners publicly alleged that Beahm had been banned after exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch’s then-existing Whispers feature. Conners also claimed Beahm tried to arrange a meeting at TwitchCon. Other reporting summarized by The Washington Post and Game Developer attributed details to people with knowledge of the matter. These were reported allegations; the underlying Twitch records are not reproduced in those accounts.

Beahm’s response
On June 25, Beahm acknowledged that Twitch Whisper messages with a minor in 2017 occurred. He characterized the conversations as casual and mutual, saying they sometimes leaned too far toward inappropriate, but denied illegal conduct and said he had no real intentions and never met the individual. Those are Beahm’s descriptions and denials, not independently established details of the messages. PC Gamer reproduced portions of his statement.
What is known about the Twitch ban and settlement?
Twitch banned Beahm on June 26, 2020. Public reporting at the time said Twitch did not disclose the specific reason. Its general statement, reproduced by Game Informer, said it takes action when it has evidence that a streamer violated its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. That was a general policy statement, not an explanation of Beahm’s case.

In March 2022, Beahm said his civil dispute with Twitch had been resolved and shared the wording, “No party admits to any wrongdoing.” That settlement language does not establish whether the later allegations were true or false. The full agreement, Twitch’s underlying evidence, the exact age involved and the full message contents are not established in the public accounts cited here. No settlement amount is supplied by those reports.
How the events unfolded
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| June 26, 2020 | Twitch banned Beahm; the specific reason was not disclosed in public reporting at the time. |
| 2021 | Beahm co-founded Midnight Society with game-industry veterans, including former Call of Duty lead Robert Bowling. The studio was developing a multiplayer vertical extraction shooter. Game Developer covered the studio and game context. |
| March 2022 | Beahm said his civil dispute with Twitch was resolved, sharing the statement that neither party admitted wrongdoing. |
| June 21–23, 2024 | Former Twitch account director Cody Conners made public allegations about messages with a minor and a possible TwitchCon meeting; subsequent reporting included accounts attributed to people with knowledge of the matter. |
| June 24, 2024 | Midnight Society announced it was immediately ending its relationship with Beahm after learning of an allegation and speaking with parties involved. |
| June 25, 2024 | Beahm acknowledged the 2017 messages and disputed the allegations’ characterization and intent. Robert Bowling also published a separate personal post about his decision not to work with someone who inappropriately messages a minor. |
What did Robert Bowling say?
Bowling, Midnight Society’s studio head, posted on June 25: “If you inappropriately message a minor. I can not work with you. Period. I promised to only act on facts, and I did.” He explicitly described the post as personal, said it did not reflect his companies and noted that it had not gone through legal or public-relations approval. It should not be treated as Midnight Society’s formal statement; the studio’s announcement was separate. Game Informer reported both statements.

What the public record does—and does not—establish
- Midnight Society announced that it was ending its relationship with Beahm immediately after looking into an allegation and speaking with parties involved.
- Beahm acknowledged that messages with a minor in 2017 occurred, while disputing the characterization and intent alleged by others and denying illegal conduct.
- The 2020 ban and later civil settlement are documented in public reporting, but the full Twitch records and settlement terms are not available in the cited accounts.
- The studio’s statement and Bowling’s personal post came from different authors and have different authority.
The Washington Post reported on June 25, 2024, that Turtle Beach confirmed it was not continuing its partnership with Beahm. That is a contemporaneous example of commercial fallout, not an indication of any current partnership. The paper also reported audience figures at that time—about 4 million Twitch followers when he was banned and 4.73 million YouTube subscribers—which should not be read as current counts. The Washington Post’s account gives that dated context.
