Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves went pantless as part of a planned May 2024 advertisement for their tequila brand, Pantalones Organic Tequila—not in an unexpected public appearance. The pickleball-themed campaign used a playful reveal to present the brand as the “Official Tequila of Pickleball.”
What happened in the May 2024 advertisement?
Contemporaneous coverage described McConaughey and Alves starting in white tennis outfits before revealing that they were not wearing pants. Reported campaign stills placed them on a court and in a laundry room; one still blurred their exposed areas. The tennis styling also prompted a reported visual callback to the 1970s “Tennis Girl” poster. Fox News’ coverage and People’s report identify the work as advertising for Pantalones Organic Tequila.
Why did they do it?
The gag served the brand’s effort to make tequila promotion feel fun rather than snooty. Fox News reported that a Pantalones representative said the campaign idea came from McConaughey and Alves. The outlet attributed this line to the couple in a press release: “We’re precious about our tequila, not our pants.”
The same release explained their intent: “While we’re all for being passionate about tequila, we wanted to remind people that, above all, it’s meant to be fun.”

How this campaign fits the brand’s other ads
Pantalones had used pantsless imagery before the pickleball campaign: an October 2023 spot featured a motorcycle. A separate promotion reported on May 20, 2024, used a croquet theme. Those are distinct campaigns, not scenes from the pickleball advertisement. Fox News covered the earlier motorcycle spot, while Today reported on the croquet promotion.
