Why did Iron Lung disappear from the charts?
During the film’s opening weekend, Markiplier said, “They took me off the chart.” The film had appeared at No. 1 on Friday, then was missing from The Numbers’ Saturday and Sunday daily charts. It reappeared in Monday reporting at No. 2, with an opening-weekend figure of $17.8 million, according to SlashFilm’s February 3, 2026 account.
SlashFilm quoted The Numbers explaining that it had not received official estimates from Markiplier for those days. The site said it mistakenly ranked films without estimates in its Saturday and Sunday daily charts, creating the impression that it had stopped reporting Iron Lung. It added, “We regret the error.” The explanation points to a reporting and display mistake, not evidence of deliberate suppression.
The Numbers also distinguished estimates from its final chart figures: it said those figures include numbers reported to it, and that actuals come directly from the distributing studio. The distinction matters because an opening-weekend estimate can change when distributor figures are reported.

How big was the opening?
The opening was strong, but published opening figures vary by tracker and reporting stage. Box Office Mojo lists a $17.8 million domestic opening. The Numbers lists an $18,190,786 opening weekend, ranking the film second for the January 30, 2026 weekend across 3,015 theaters. These are tracker-reported figures, not two amounts that should be added together.
The film continued its theatrical run after opening weekend: The Numbers lists a $6,785,363 weekend gross and No. 3 rank for February 6, followed by $3,406,339 and No. 9 for February 13. Those are weekend figures, distinct from the film’s cumulative total.
What “seven times its budget” means
The “7x” phrasing comes from an early worldwide gross of about $21.7 million divided by The Numbers’ listed $3 million production budget: a rough ratio of 7.2 to 1. Put precisely, the early gross estimate was roughly seven times the listed budget. It does not mean the film earned seven times its budget in profit.
The budget figure is not settled by the available reporting. The Numbers lists $3 million, while a PC Gamer report dated February 28, 2026 says Markiplier later described the budget on the Lemonade Stand podcast as “a little over” $4 million. Neither figure is presented here as audited accounts, so the ratio depends on which budget description is used.
Box-office gross is also not the same as money returned to the production. The gross does not account for exhibition shares, marketing, distribution, financing, or other expenses. The available figures do not establish a precise net profit.

The two trackers checked list different cumulative totals. Box Office Mojo reports $50,036,487 worldwide, while The Numbers reports $51,226,173 worldwide. Their domestic and international breakdowns differ too:

These are each tracker’s reported totals, not a single reconciled figure. The sources do not establish exactly why they differ; reporting cutoffs or methods may account for the gap. Attribute a total to its tracker rather than combining the figures or treating one as a definitive audited result.
What is Iron Lung about?
The Numbers lists the film as a 127-minute horror and science-fiction release, rated R for language, bloody images, and some gore. Its synopsis places the story after the Quiet Rapture, a catastrophe in which known stars and habitable planets disappear. A convict is sent in a small submarine to investigate an ocean of blood on a desolate moon.
The film adapts David Szymanski’s Iron Lung, a short horror game released on Steam on March 9, 2022. The game’s premise likewise has the player piloting a tiny submarine through a blood ocean on an alien moon. The Numbers lists the film’s U.S. wide release by Markiplier Studios as January 30, 2026, in 3,015 theaters.
