Margaret Qualley left Hulu’s Amanda Knox series in April 2024, and Variety reported that scheduling conflicts were the reason. Grace Van Patten ultimately played Amanda Knox in the completed series, released as The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
Why did Margaret Qualley leave the Amanda Knox series?
Variety reported on April 17, 2024, that Qualley exited because of scheduling conflicts and that the role would be recast. The report did not include a direct explanation from Qualley or Hulu, so the reason should be attributed to Variety rather than presented as a first-person confirmation.
Who replaced Margaret Qualley as Amanda Knox?
Grace Van Patten took the role of Amanda Knox. Hulu’s official series page lists Van Patten among the cast of the finished production.
When did Qualley join the project, and what became of the series?
Variety reported on March 8, 2024, that Qualley was set to star and executive produce the then-untitled limited series. Her exit was reported the following month. The completed show was released as The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, an eight-episode limited series.

Disney announced on June 5, 2025, that the series would premiere on Hulu in the United States on August 20, 2025, with two episodes available at launch and new episodes released weekly afterward. Disney’s announcement said it would be available on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland and internationally; availability can vary by location and may change.
What is the series about?
Disney described the drama as inspired by Knox’s story and her effort to free herself after being wrongfully convicted in the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. That is the platform’s promotional framing of a scripted series, not a claim that every scene is documentary fact. Hulu’s synopsis says the series “examines why authorities and the world stood so firmly in judgment”; that, too, is the platform’s description.
