Lindsay Lohan has said she moved away from Hollywood to escape the attention and paparazzi that overshadowed her work, make time for herself and her family, and rediscover her enjoyment of acting. Dubai offered the distance and privacy she wanted. But she has not said she will never return to the United States: in 2025, she filmed in Los Angeles and said she usually made it home to her son at night.
Why Lindsay Lohan moved to Dubai
Lohan moved to Dubai in 2014, after leaving the United States for London, according to The Independent’s 2024 account. In later interviews, she described the move as a way to step back from Hollywood’s intense attention—not as a rejection of acting.
She wanted distance from paparazzi
In a 2024 Bustle interview quoted by The Independent, Lohan said paparazzi attention had overshadowed some of her work when she was younger. “I feel like some of [my work] got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that’s kind of annoying. I wish that part didn’t happen,” she said.
She also explained why she wanted to step out of the spotlight: “So that’s why I wanted to disappear. I was like, ‘Unless there’s no story here, they’re not going to focus on just my work.’” Her point was that she wanted attention to return to her work, rather than to her private life. She wanted time for herself and her family
The National reported in August 2024 that Lohan had described taking time away as a chance to be with herself and her family. In comments to Entertainment Tonight reported by The National, she said: “Just taking a moment. Just to be with me. Just spending time with family. I think that’s such an important thing to do.” She also described wanting to be “out of the attention of it all.”
What she says Dubai is like
In 2025, Lohan described Dubai as a place where she could live more normally, away from Hollywood. Speaking on Live with Kelly and Mark, as reported by Gulf News, she said: “Far away from Hollywood, I lead a normal life.” She also spoke about feeling more at ease taking her son out: “There’s no worry of, ‘Oh, I can’t go to this place because someone will take a picture of my son.’ I feel very safe here.”

Those are Lohan’s descriptions of her own experience; they do not establish that Dubai is free of paparazzi or that everyone there has the same level of privacy or safety. Gulf News reported her comments in July 2025.
Her move was not caused by marriage or motherhood
The timeline matters. Lohan moved to Dubai in 2014. The National reported that she met Bader Shammas there in 2020, and that they married in 2022 and had their son, Luai, in 2023. Those family milestones came after the move, so they should not be treated as its original cause.

Is Lindsay Lohan coming back to the United States?
Living in Dubai does not mean Lohan has ruled out returning to the United States. In 2025, she worked on a U.S. film production in Los Angeles. In ELLE’s May 2025 interview, she said: “I made it home every night, except for one, to tuck my son in.” That account shows she was able to work in Los Angeles while maintaining her family life in Dubai; it does not establish a permanent move back to the U.S.
So the title’s suggestion that she “isn’t coming back” overstates what her comments and recent work show. The clearest supported explanation is that Dubai is her home base because it gives her the distance and day-to-day privacy she values, while her acting career still brings her to the United States.
