It did not establish Belichick’s future plans: at the time, people around him denied interest, and then-UNC general manager Michael Lombardi said his focus was on the college program.
What Hudson’s UNC photo said
On January 16, 2025, Hudson posted a photo with Belichick at Kenan Stadium and tagged the venue. Her caption read, “Two people who are overtly committed to @uncfootball,” according to On3’s report.
The post framed the pair’s public connection to UNC football. It was not an announcement about a job offer, a contract, or a decision by Belichick to rule out the NFL permanently.
Why NFL rumors were circulating
The photo appeared as NFL coaching vacancies prompted speculation that Belichick might return to the league. On3 reported that people around him denied interest in an NFL job. Lombardi, then UNC’s general manager, also pushed back on the rumors in a post quoted by On3: “Bill is recruiting in DC today and Baltimore tomorrow. His focus is on North Carolina football, hiring staff members and developing the team. The NFL isn’t a(n) option so please stop making it one. Thank you.”

Lombardi’s statement described Belichick’s focus at that time; it was not a binding university declaration or a guarantee about later decisions. On3 also reported in January 2025 that Belichick did not yet have a signed, fully executed UNC contract and discussed uncertainty around a possible buyout. Those details belong to that period and should not be treated as current contract terms.
What UNC later said about Hudson’s role and access
In May 2025, UNC’s athletics department said Hudson was not a university or athletics employee but was welcome at football facilities. The Associated Press quoted the statement: “While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities.” AP also described conflicting reports about facility access, including a podcast report and its stated sourcing. The accounts do not support presenting a ban or the dispute’s resolution as settled fact.

The university’s statement also said Hudson handled Belichick’s personal-brand activities outside his university responsibilities, as reported by the Associated Press on May 9, 2025. That later clarification is separate from what the January photo itself showed.

September 2026 reporting raised separate questions about Hudson’s alleged involvement in UNC football operations. The Independent summarized Belichick’s denial that she had a football-operations role, while The Atlantic discussed a wider investigation into the program and the uncertainty around what had been substantiated. Neither development changes the meaning of the earlier photo or proves that Belichick returned to the NFL.
