Jimmy Kimmel threatened legal action against Aaron Rodgers in January 2024 after Rodgers suggested Kimmel was among people hoping Epstein-related records would remain secret. Kimmel denied ever having contact with Jeffrey Epstein. The reporting cited here establishes a threat to sue—not that Kimmel filed a lawsuit—and FactCheck.org reported that Kimmel was not named in the documents unsealed that week.
What Aaron Rodgers said—and how Jimmy Kimmel responded
On January 2, 2024, Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show that many people, “including Jimmy Kimmel,” hoped the Epstein list would not come out, according to The Washington Post. The remark implied Kimmel had a reason to fear the release; it did not establish that Kimmel had any connection to Epstein or the records.
Kimmel responded publicly that he had never met, flown with, visited, or had contact with Epstein. He warned Rodgers that continuing the remarks could lead to a court dispute: “Keep it up and we will debate the facts further in court.” The sentence was a conditional threat, not an announcement that a case had been filed.
What were the Epstein documents?
The January 2024 release was a set of court documents from Virginia Giuffre’s civil litigation involving Ghislaine Maxwell. Calling them an “Epstein list” was common shorthand, but the released material was not established as a verified, comprehensive list of Epstein’s clients. FactCheck.org reported that Kimmel was not named in the documents unsealed that week: FactCheck.org’s explanation of what the documents do and do not show.

How the dispute developed
January 3: Pat McAfee apologizes
The day after the remarks and Kimmel’s response, Pat McAfee apologized for the show’s role in the controversy, the Los Angeles Times reported.
January 9: Rodgers clarifies, but does not apologize
Rodgers returned to the show and said he had not called Kimmel a pedophile, criticizing how his earlier remarks had been interpreted. The Associated Press reported that Rodgers said: “Any type of name calling is ridiculous and I’m not calling him (a pedophile), and neither should you.” He stopped short of apologizing and said he was open to moving forward if Kimmel understood what he had said: Associated Press, January 9, 2024.

Did Jimmy Kimmel sue Aaron Rodgers?
The cited reporting documents Kimmel’s conditional threat to take the dispute to court. It does not establish whether he later filed suit or the current status of any court action. Without an authoritative docket check, it would be inaccurate to say either that a lawsuit was filed or that no lawsuit exists.
