What happened before Season 5?
On September 21, 2011, ABC News reported that Bravo had confirmed a cast overhaul ahead of the fifth season. Four women—Zarin, Kelly Bensimon, Alex McCord and Cindy Barshop—were reported to be leaving. The report quoted Zarin saying she had not really asked why and that the decision had been made. ABC News reported on the departures.
In her public statement, Zarin said, “The show has decided to take a different direction and unfortunately I will not be a part of Season five.” That was her description of the decision, not a detailed explanation from Bravo of why it chose not to bring her back. Zarin’s official site published her statement.
Did Jill Zarin say she wanted to leave?
In a 2014 preview of an OWN interview, Zarin said she had drafted an email to her producer and three castmates saying she wanted to leave the show on a high note. She said she never sent it and got cold feet. In her account, sending the email would have meant she left before she was fired six weeks later.

That recollection does not establish that Bravo’s decision was prompted by the draft. Zarin also said, “I honestly have no idea really why I was fired. Because nobody will tell me the true answer.” TheWrap’s 2014 preview of the interview reported her comments.
Did cast in-fighting cause her departure?
Cindy Barshop offered one explanation for the wider departures, telling ABC News, “Following the reunion it was clear that the women genuinely didn’t like each other anymore.” ABC characterized Barshop’s view as linking the exits to cast in-fighting. It is a former cast member’s interpretation of the group changes, not a confirmed Bravo explanation for Zarin’s individual departure.

What did Zarin ask Andy Cohen?
Bravo’s official page for a Watch What Happens Live clip describes Zarin asking Andy Cohen why she was “not asked back to RHONY.” The clip reflects the question she raised publicly; it does not supply a definitive answer from Bravo. Bravo’s clip page uses the wording “Why Was I Fired?”

What can be stated with confidence?
- Zarin did not return for Season 5 during a broader cast overhaul.
- Her public statement cited the show’s decision to take a different direction, without specifying a private rationale.
- She later recalled drafting but not sending an email about leaving, and said she did not know the true reason for her firing.
- Cast conflict was Barshop’s explanation for the wider changes; the available accounts do not establish it as Bravo’s individual reason for Zarin’s exit.
