That explains Uso’s use of it and its WWE breakthrough—not who first used “yeet” in wider culture.
Was “yeet” part of Jey Uso’s real-life vocabulary?
Yes, according to Uso. In a 2025 interview with Fightful’s transcription of his Nightcap interview, he said he, his brothers and Roman Reigns had been saying it “from the jump,” and described it as West Coast slang. He recalled hearing it in old promos and said the version he knew was sometimes pronounced “yee,” without the final “t.”
Those remarks are Uso’s recollection of his own vocabulary and circle. They are not evidence that he invented the word, or a full account of when and where it first appeared in slang. The material cited here does not establish the word’s broader cultural origin.
What made it take off in WWE?
Uso pointed to the post-show press conference after WWE Fastlane 2023 as a turning point. He recalled Cody Rhodes saying “yeet” there, after which the phrase began to take off. In the 2025 interview, Uso said he had not expected it to become as popular as it did. That is his retrospective view, not a measured popularity figure.

The distinction matters: in Uso’s telling, the press conference helped bring an existing expression into wider WWE use; it did not create the word. The cited account does not independently establish the precise moment the audience first adopted it.
How did “Yeet” become part of Jey Uso’s WWE identity?
WWE’s official Jey Uso biography describes his entrance through the crowd amid “YEET!” chants. That presentation makes the word a visible part of his connection with the audience, alongside his evolution from tag-team success toward a singles main-event identity.

In other words, the catchphrase has a personal explanation from Uso, a WWE turning point he identifies, and a later role in how the company presents his entrance. Those are related parts of the story, but they are not interchangeable claims about who originated the word.

Digital and game tie-ins
WWE announced on April 11, 2025, that Jey Uso “Yeet” sunglasses were available free as a Bitmoji item on Snapchat. The same announcement also mentioned women’s championship titles with a separate price; those titles were not Yeet merchandise. Read WWE’s announcement.
Take-Two’s WWE 2K25 release material lists a Yeet Tank Top and Yeet Sunglasses as The Island cosmetics for specified PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions. These are in-game items, not physical apparel; edition eligibility should be checked against the game’s current listing.
