Jax Taylor later said a dispute over filming a beach-cleanup scene was the final straw in his departure from Vanderpump Rules. Executive producer Alex Baskin said Taylor had also urged castmates not to attend, which production viewed as an attempt to sabotage the shoot. But Bravo’s 2020 announcement only said Taylor and Brittany Cartwright would not return; it did not publicly call the decision a firing or give a reason.
What Taylor said led to his departure
In a March 2025 podcast conversation with Baskin, Taylor recalled that production wanted the cast to film a beach-cleanup scene in Malibu. Taylor objected to the travel and suggested filming at a park in West Hollywood instead. He said he refused to go and acknowledged that he had been micromanaging production. Taylor described the dispute as the final straw after earlier friction with producers. Baskin gave a related but distinct account: he said Taylor texted other cast members urging them not to attend. Baskin recalled production reacting, “Can you believe Jax is sabotaging the production?” The explanation is therefore a retrospective account from Taylor, with Baskin describing how production interpreted Taylor’s messages—not a reason Bravo stated publicly when the couple’s exit was announced.
What Bravo announced in 2020
On December 4, 2020, Taylor said he and Cartwright would not return for another season. He said they wanted to focus on their growing family and new endeavors. Bravo confirmed their non-return, but its announcement did not explain whether the decision came from the network, production, or the couple. That distinction matters when asking whether Taylor was “fired.” The contemporaneous public record confirms that he and Cartwright left the show, but it does not establish who initiated the decision or label it a firing. Taylor’s account of the beach-shoot conflict came years later.

Not according to the accounts cited here. In 2020, TVLine reported that Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute were fired after a past prank involving Black castmate Faith Stowers came to light, and that Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni were dropped over racist tweets. Those were separate departures and controversies. The available reporting does not say Taylor left for the same conduct or that Bravo gave that as his reason. TVLine’s report
