In announcing the cancellation three days later, Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins cited safety and performance concerns. The band’s account changed in December 2025, when its members said they had resolved their differences and would pursue separate musical and creative endeavors.
What happened at the Boston concert?
During Jane’s Addiction’s September 13, 2024 show at Leader Bank Pavilion, an altercation broke out between Farrell and Navarro. Footage described by The Guardian showed Farrell shove and punch Navarro. Crew members restrained Farrell, and the show ended.
Why did Jane’s Addiction cancel the tour?
On September 16, Navarro, Avery and Perkins announced that the remaining North American dates were canceled. Their statement cited what they called a continuing pattern of behavior and Farrell’s mental-health difficulties, and said they were concerned for his safety as well as their own. Navarro said they could see no solution that would ensure a safe stage environment or allow the band to perform reliably each night. Those were the signatories’ stated reasons at the time, not an independently established finding about Farrell’s health or the full cause of the conflict.
The band’s announcement said refunds would be issued. CityNews reported that the Toronto concert scheduled for that Wednesday would not go ahead. Coverage differed on how many dates remained: The Guardian described 12 concerts, while a later account by Farrell cited 15 canceled shows. The sources do not reconcile those figures.

How did the band’s account change?
In December 2025, the members said they had resolved their differences and would continue separately. Their statement said they had unilaterally decided to stop the tour without notifying Farrell and regretted making inaccurate statements about his mental health. Farrell also apologized for losing his temper and disrupting the Boston show, saying he had not handled himself as he should have. Louder reported the statements on December 18, 2025.
The 2025 statements add important context to the original cancellation announcement: the band later acknowledged that the tour was stopped without Farrell’s notice and expressed regret for part of the original explanation. They do not erase the footage of the onstage altercation or settle every dispute about what led to it.

What did the lawsuits allege?
In July 2025, the Associated Press reported dueling lawsuits that set out competing allegations. Navarro, Avery and Perkins sued Farrell, alleging that his conduct culminated in the assault and seeking at least $10 million. Farrell and his wife, Etty Lau Farrell, sued the three bandmates; their complaint blamed them for the conflict and alleged that Navarro and Avery assaulted them. These are claims made by opposing parties, not court findings. The cited AP report does not establish a judgment or the later status of the litigation. The AP report describes the disputes.

The 2024 dates were presented as a reunion tour: AP described them as the first time the original members had played together since 2010. Jane’s Addiction helped shape the late-1980s Los Angeles music scene with a blend of punk, goth and psychedelic sounds. The band is known for songs including “Jane Says” and “Been Caught Stealing,” and for helping found Lollapalooza. AP’s coverage provides that background.
