James Woods said his Pacific Palisades home was still standing after he reached the property on January 10, 2025, despite having been told it was “gone forever.” He also said the house had smoke and other damage. The Associated Press did not identify who gave him the earlier report or how it was conveyed.
What James Woods said about his home
In a post on X made Friday, January 10, Woods wrote: “We managed to get to our property and our home, that we were told is gone forever, is still standing.” He added: “In this hellish landscape ‘standing’ is relative, but smoke and other damage is not like the utter destruction around us.” The Associated Press reproduced both statements in its January 11 report.
Woods’s words establish what he said he found at the property then; they are not an independent inspection of the home. His phrase “we were told” does not name the person or organization that gave him the earlier information.
How events unfolded
- January 7, 2025: The Palisades Fire began in Pacific Palisades, southeast of Palisades Drive, according to CAL FIRE’s incident record.
- During the fire: Woods evacuated. The Associated Press reported on January 8 that he had shared footage of flames near his home and said he did not know whether it remained standing. AP’s coverage of the evacuations described that uncertainty.
- January 10: Woods later said he reached the property and found the house standing, while acknowledging smoke and other damage.
How the fire-wide damage counts changed
Reports of structural damage to the wider Palisades Fire area changed as inspections and verification continued. These figures describe the fire’s broader impact, not Woods’s individual property.
