Hamish Blake and Andy Lee were reportedly banned for life from the Olympic Village after Lee entered the London 2012 village using another person’s pass. Lee said an error in his birth-date paperwork had first stopped him getting in. His account describes a village ban—not a confirmed ban from Olympic events generally.
Why were Hamish and Andy banned from the Olympic Village?
Andy Lee recounted the incident in an interview with Triple M, as reported by 7NEWS. He said he and Hamish Blake had been invited to speak to Australian Olympians before the London 2012 Games. When someone entered Lee’s details, they put that day’s date down as his birth date. Officials spotted the error and refused him entry.
Lee said a team member offered to bring out an outfit because he looked somewhat like a high jumper. Lee then used another person’s pass to get into the village. He described doing so as a “huge breach of security at a time when they were trying to prove that security was tight.”
What happened after they got inside?
Lee said he and Blake thought they had gone unnoticed, but security found them inside and questioned them separately. The head of security was Australian and heard their explanation. Lee said they “had to agree to be banned for life.”

Lee also said the Australian team later had some visitors’ passes restricted, and he regretted that some people missed out. His account does not specify the administrative terms or duration of those pass restrictions.
Does the ban cover all Olympic events?
The reported consequence was a lifetime ban from the Olympic Village. The 7NEWS account does not say Blake and Lee were barred from every Olympic event or venue, so “banned from the Olympics” is broader than the available account supports. The story is attributed to Lee’s interview; a formal IOC or event-security ruling was not cited in the report.

The official Hamish & Andy archive includes Olympic-related trips, including taking competition winners to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. That provides context for the duo’s Olympic involvement but does not independently confirm the London 2012 incident.
