Gwyneth Paltrow’s “I’m 109 years old” remark was a joke about the 23-year age difference between her and Timothée Chalamet—not a literal claim about her age. In a Vanity Fair interview published March 18, 2025, she also discussed filming intimate scenes with Chalamet for Marty Supreme and how they approached working with an intimacy coordinator.
What did Paltrow mean by “I’m 109”?
Recalling her first meeting with Chalamet, Paltrow said: “I was like, ‘Okay, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14.’” The exaggerated ages were a punchline about their 23-year age gap, not a statement of their actual ages. E! News also described the line as a joke about their age difference.

What did she say about filming intimate scenes?
“I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie,” Paltrow told Vanity Fair. She described an intimacy coordinator asking how they wanted a scene choreographed. Paltrow said she and Chalamet felt comfortable enough to ask the coordinator to step back: “We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.’”
Paltrow also said that highly prescriptive choreography could make her feel “stifled” as an artist. She framed this as her own response to the work on this film, not as a rule for other actors or productions. The Guardian’s March 19, 2025 report recounts the exchange and quotes her describing an older approach to filming intimate scenes: “Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.”

How does the comment fit the film?
Marty Supreme is a 2025 film directed by Josh Safdie and co-written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein. Chalamet plays Marty Mauser, a young man pursuing greatness despite others dismissing his dream; Paltrow is also part of the cast. A24’s official film page gives the credits and synopsis. The Guardian describes Paltrow’s character as the wife of a rival table-tennis contender who begins an affair with Marty. In the Vanity Fair interview, Paltrow characterized the relationship as “kind of transactional for them both.”

Paltrow’s comments describe her experience with one scene and one production. They do not establish that intimacy coordinators are unnecessary, that all performers prefer less choreography, or that the scenes were unsimulated. Her point was that she and Chalamet felt comfortable asking for a less hands-on approach in the situation she described.
