Green Day briefly stopped its September 4, 2024, concert at Detroit’s Comerica Park after a drone was reported inside the venue. Detroit police said they detained the suspected operator outside the park pending investigation. The band returned to the stage and continued the show; the reports do not establish the operator’s intent or any later legal or FAA outcome.
What happened at Comerica Park?
The interruption came during Green Day’s early set, while the band was performing “Longview.” Crew members signaled the musicians to leave the stage, and the venue screens displayed a “SHOW PAUSE” message. After a brief delay, Green Day returned and resumed the concert.
Detroit police said a man flew a drone into the stadium and that officers located and detained the suspected operator outside Comerica Park pending further investigation. That account does not establish why the drone was flown or what its purpose was. Green Day described the pause as a precaution over a potential safety issue and said Detroit police resolved the situation.
Was there a confirmed threat?
The reports describe a drone inside the venue and a precautionary pause, but do not establish a specific attack or confirmed threat. They also do not establish the suspected operator’s intent. The reported detention was pending investigation, not a conviction.

What did the FAA say about possible penalties?
CBS Detroit reported this general statement from the FAA: “The FAA investigates all reports of potentially hazardous drone operations. Although the agency does not have criminal prosecution authority, drone operators who endanger other aircraft or people on the ground can face fines that exceed $30,000. In addition, the FAA can suspend or revoke drone operators’ pilot certificates.”
This was general enforcement context, not an announcement of action in the Detroit incident. The cited reports do not say the FAA imposed a fine, suspended a certificate, or opened a case against the suspected operator.
