Galadriel and Adar have a common enemy: Sauron. In interviews published before The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season two, actors Morfydd Clark and Sam Hazeldine described a possible alliance as uneasy and tactical—not a reconciliation. Both have been deceived and hurt by Sauron, but their aims remain different.
Why would Galadriel and Adar team up?
Sauron gives them a reason to cooperate. In a season-two trailer line reported by GamesRadar+, Adar tells Galadriel, “Sauron is my enemy as much as yours, I can help you destroy him.” The line frames the arrangement as a response to a threat, not evidence that the two trust one another.
In a Gizmodo/io9 interview published August 21, 2024, Hazeldine put the shared history bluntly: “The only thing that the share is that they’ve both been kind of abused by Sauron.” He also described the uncertainty beneath the cooperation: “They’re trying to do something about the threat of Sauron, but you’re wondering while you’re doing it if what you’re doing is exactly what he had intended.”
What each character wants
Galadriel: a duty beyond personal pursuit
Clark said Galadriel is changed by her encounter with Sauron: “She is forever changed.” Her struggle is no longer only personal; Clark described her as needing to fight for Middle-earth beyond her own pursuit. As she put it, “Ultimately, all of their decisions [with each other] are based on Sauron. He’s still got them.”

Adar: responsibility for the Orcs
Hazeldine described Adar as protective of his “children,” the Orcs, and weighed down by responsibility for their fate. That concern gives him a motive distinct from Galadriel’s. Their opposition to Sauron may overlap, but the interviews do not suggest that their broader goals are the same.
Why the alliance is uneasy—and may not last
The actors’ comments present cooperation as contingent: Sauron’s threat may make it necessary, while mistrust and competing priorities remain. A Nerdist interview published August 27, 2024 also emphasized the characters’ shared hurt and discomfort. In a TV Insider interview published August 28, 2024, Hazeldine warned that the alliance would not last long. That was his pre-release expectation, not a claim that the partnership endures or ends in any particular way.
