Viewers criticized Network 10’s 2024 Gladiators revival for what they saw as a small-looking audience, a cheap-looking set and uneven pacing. Some suspected the crowd noise had been added after filming, but that remained fan speculation: the available reporting does not confirm that the audio was fabricated or establish the show’s production budget.
What viewers objected to
On the reboot’s January 15, 2024 premiere night, PerthNow reported social-media complaints about the apparent lack of a live audience and the show’s presentation. Some viewers questioned whether crowd sounds had been added in post-production. The report records those suspicions; it does not verify how the audience was recorded or how the sound was mixed. PerthNow’s contemporaneous account is evidence of the reaction, not proof of the allegation.
The crowd-noise allegation
There is no confirmed finding in the available sources that the crowd audio was fabricated, or that producers deliberately misrepresented an audience. Network 10’s series description does not address the audience or sound mixing. KPX, a post-production studio, says it delivered post-production assets for the Australian reboot, but that establishes only a post-production role—not that crowd sounds were created or altered. KPX’s project reference does not substantiate the specific claim.
Why some called it cheap-looking
PerthNow also summarized complaints about the set design, the apparent scale of the audience, pacing and the presentation of events. Those are viewers’ subjective judgments, not independently measured production shortcomings. The available sources do not establish the show’s budget, so the criticism should not be treated as evidence that the production was underfunded.

What the 2024 reboot was
Network 10’s revival premiered on January 15, 2024. The broadcaster presented it as a new lineup of Gladiators competing in a mix of familiar and new events, including Hang Tough, Duel, The Wall, Power Ball, Pyramid and The Eliminator. Its official description credits Warner Bros. International Television Production. Network 10’s series page gives the premise, events, premiere date and production credit.
Network 10’s launch announcement named Liz Ellis and Beau Ryan as hosts and scheduled the premiere for 7:30 pm on 10 and 10 Play. It also highlighted an outdoor billboard campaign; that marketing activity does not establish the budget or scale of the television production. Paramount Australia & New Zealand’s announcement documents the launch details.

What happened after the premiere
In May 2024, trade publication C21Media reported that Network 10 had axed the revival. The available reporting does not establish that the fan backlash caused the decision, so the cancellation should be treated as a later development rather than a confirmed consequence of the premiere-night criticism. C21Media’s report covers the axing.
