Entertainment Tonight did not report a specific reason Eva Mendes missed the 2024 Oscars red carpet alongside Ryan Gosling. It reported that she supported him backstage and online; her previously stated preference for keeping family life private offers context, but is not a confirmed explanation for that night.
What happened at the 2024 Oscars
In a report published March 11, 2024, Entertainment Tonight said Mendes did not walk the red carpet with Gosling at the 96th Academy Awards. That does not establish that she skipped the ceremony: the report describes her support backstage and on social media.

How Eva Mendes supported Ryan Gosling
Entertainment Tonight reported that Mendes posted from a dressing room backstage before Gosling’s performance, writing, “Siempre con mi hombre” (“always with my man”). After the performance, she celebrated him in a post quoted by the outlet: “You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG,” followed by “Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed. 💋.” These are statements as reproduced in the outlet’s report.
What Mendes has said about privacy
The outlet describes Mendes and Gosling as tending to avoid public appearances together. It also cites Mendes’s 2020 explanation of their approach to family privacy: “As far as Ryan and I, it just works for us this way, to stay private.” That preference helps explain why they may keep public appearances limited, but Mendes did not identify it as the reason she did not walk the carpet that evening.

What is not known about her absence from the carpet
Entertainment Tonight’s report does not establish whether childcare, scheduling, access, or a deliberate choice about carpet appearances factored into the decision. Mendes’s later reference to putting the children to bed is not an explanation for why she did not join Gosling on the carpet.
