The placement drew criticism because of BetterHelp’s earlier privacy controversy—but available reporting does not establish who chose the sponsor, the deal’s precise terms, or whether Eminem personally received compensation.
Which Eminem video is this?
It is “Somebody Save Me,” featuring Jelly Roll, from The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). Eminem’s official site announced the video on August 21, 2024: Eminem’s announcement.

The song’s subject matter and the video’s closing promotion are distinct parts of the story. Director Emil Nava spoke about his recovery in Promonews’ August 29, 2024 coverage: “For me, life has always been about escapism, and that was mainly through alcohol and drugs when I was younger. If I hadn’t gotten sober, I probably would’ve died.” That context helps explain why a mental-health service appeared at the end, but it does not establish who arranged the promotion or why.
What was the BetterHelp offer?
Promonews described the video’s ending as a BetterHelp partnership call to action offering a full month of free online therapy: Promonews’ August 29, 2024 coverage. That is a description of the offer attached to the video at the time, not evidence of terms available now. No current offer or signup conditions are established here.

Why did the placement draw criticism?
Criticism reported by Futurism pointed to BetterHelp’s earlier dispute with the Federal Trade Commission. Futurism reported that the FTC alleged in 2023 that BetterHelp had shared sensitive health information for advertising, and that BetterHelp reached a $7.8 million settlement. The outlet also attributed to the FTC a figure of more than seven million consumers whose information was involved in the reported allegations. These are figures and characterizations reported by Futurism in 2024; they should be understood as context about the regulator’s allegations and reported settlement, not as a new finding about BetterHelp’s current practices: Futurism’s report.
The controversy also raises two separate questions: how a service handles people’s data, and whether its care is high-quality and safe. Futurism quoted University of Sydney psychologist Andrew Campbell saying, “We have a huge demand for mental health services that needs to be met and the space is there for mental health offerings,” then adding, “The other side of the coin is about the quality and the safety of the service… and that’s my concern about BetterHelp.” His comments express a concern about service quality and safety; they are not a clinical assessment of the particular offer in the video.
What is known—and not known—about Eminem’s role?
Futurism called the link an affiliate link and reported fan criticism, including individual Reddit comments such as “I wish Em did more research on BetterHelp before advertising it” and “BetterHelp is terrible, sad to see that he’s advertising it.” Those comments are examples of reactions quoted by the outlet, not a survey of viewers.
Rank #2
The reporting does not establish the affiliate contract, how any compensation worked, who selected BetterHelp, or Eminem’s individual role in that decision. Futurism said Eminem and BetterHelp did not respond to its request for comment. The visible placement supports saying the video promoted BetterHelp; it does not, by itself, prove a personal endorsement beyond that placement or disclose payment to Eminem.

What the promotion does—and does not—tell viewers
The month-free offer was part of a 2024 video promotion. It should not be treated as a current price, a guarantee of a particular counselor or outcome, or a substitute for checking present-day terms and privacy information. The historical FTC allegations explain why viewers questioned the placement, but the material cited here does not establish current BetterHelp data practices or make a present-day recommendation about its services.
