Elle Fanning said she and the writers’ room for Margo’s Got Money Troubles created an OnlyFans account so she could see how the website worked while preparing to play Margo. Her comments describe research for the role—not an announcement that she planned to publish content on the platform.
Why did Elle Fanning create an OnlyFans account?
Fanning described the account as part of her character research. At the series premiere during the SXSW Film & TV Festival on March 12, 2026, she said: “I mean, also, you know, we had to dive into OnlyFans a little bit. We did create an account for the writer’s room and for me and so I could kind of check out how the website is.” The remarks were reported by PEOPLE in an article republished by AOL on March 13, 2026 (read the report).
The report does not describe what Fanning viewed or any activity beyond the stated research purpose. It does not say that she created the account to become a creator or publish material.
Which role was she researching?
Fanning was preparing to play Margo in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, a series based on Rufi Thorpe’s novel of the same name. The report describes Margo as a former college student facing financial trouble, aspiring to be a writer, and raising a baby.

Showrunner Eva Anderson also described the writers’ room’s research in the report: “There was a lot of looking at OnlyFans with the writers, but we all gave consent to each other before we did it. We were very responsible and we just tried to get as much information as we could before we started.”
What did the report say about the series?
The PEOPLE report described Margo’s Got Money Troubles as an eight-episode Apple TV series and gave April 15, 2026 as its premiere date. That date has passed; the report alone does not establish whether or where the series is currently available to stream.
