Noel did not return for season 3, and the show’s in-story explanation is that Kristen Chazal transferred to the Dallas Field Office. That explanation is the character’s storyline, not the production’s reason for the casting change, and the reporting available does not connect the two.
What the show says happened to Kristen
Noel played Kristen in the first two seasons. Kristen started as an intelligence analyst and became a field agent in season 2, which made her one of the few members of the team to move from the analysis side of the bureau into active investigations on screen.

At the start of season 3, Kristen was no longer part of the team. Precinct TV reports that Jubal told the team Kristen had texted that she was joining the Dallas Field Office. Distractify reports the same Dallas explanation. Neither outlet frames it as a scene with a farewell, which is why the departure has drawn fan questions.
What has not been publicly explained
The real-world reason for Noel’s departure has not been stated in the reporting reviewed here. Precinct TV says neither Noel nor the show publicly addressed the decision. Distractify says Noel had not revealed why she was taken off the show. Us Weekly, in a November 10, 2025 roundup of FBI cast departures, says Noel did not return for season 3 and that Kristen’s absence was never explained on screen or off.

That leaves a gap that is easy to fill with theories, but none of the cited sources supports a specific motive. A character being written to Dallas tells you how the writers chose to remove her; it does not tell you whether the choice was creative, contractual, or personal.
What Noel said about the role before leaving
Noel spoke positively about Kristen before her exit. In a February 26, 2019 interview with One Chicago Center, she said:
Rank #2
“I loved the character Kristen because she was somebody my age, but she was written to be the brainiac of the group, which was not something that I’ve seen in a lot of scripts that come my way.”
The comment describes why Noel valued the part. It does not discuss leaving the series, and it should not be read as a hint about the departure.

Sources and what each one establishes
| Source | Date | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Distractify, “Kristen Chazal Was Unceremoniously Written Out of ‘FBI’ and Fans Want Answers” | February 14, 2024 | Reports the Dallas explanation; says Noel had not publicly revealed why she left |
| Precinct TV, “Why was Ebonée Noel written out of FBI after Season 2?” | 2024 | Reports Jubal’s Dallas Field Office explanation; says neither Noel nor the show explained the decision |
| One Chicago Center, “Ebonee Noel talks going from SVU guest star to FBI heroine” | February 26, 2019 | Contains Noel’s comments on playing Kristen; predates her exit |
| Us Weekly, “‘FBI’ Stars Who’ve Left the CBS Show After Playing Special Agents: Where Are They Now?” | November 10, 2025 | Reports Noel did not return for season 3; Kristen’s absence was not explained |
The sources are reporting and interviews, not statements from Noel or the production about the decision. If a statement is issued later, it would change this picture; as of the latest cited coverage, none has been made.
