Donald Glover canceled the remaining dates of his Childish Gambino tour in October 2024 after seeking medical care and scheduling surgery. At the time, he described an ailment but did not name a diagnosis. In November 2025, he later said that a doctor told him he had suffered a stroke and that doctors found a hole in his heart.
Why did Donald Glover cancel the tour?
On 4 October 2024, Glover announced that he needed time away to heal and canceled the remaining dates of The New World Tour. His statement, reproduced on The O2’s event page, said: “As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.” He also wrote, “My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously.”
Glover said the health issue became apparent after a show in New Orleans. He sought care in Houston, where the 8 September 2024 performance was canceled. The Associated Press reported that tests followed. Neither his October statement nor contemporaneous coverage identified the ailment as a specific diagnosis.
Which dates were canceled?
The cancellation covered the remaining North American dates as well as the UK and European dates. The Associated Press reported that more than 30 scheduled dates were affected. The announcement said the dates were canceled, not postponed, and did not offer replacement dates.

The O2’s official event page lists the London-area event scheduled for 30 November–1 December 2024 as canceled. It says tickets would be refunded at the point of purchase. That notice does not establish the status or timing of any individual refund; ticket holders should check their confirmation and contact the original seller.
What did Glover later say about his health?
In November 2025, while speaking at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles, Glover gave a fuller account of what had happened. The Associated Press reported on 23 November that he said a doctor told him he had suffered a stroke. He also said doctors found a hole in his heart and that he had two surgeries.

AP reported that Glover described severe head pain in Louisiana before the New Orleans show and said he performed anyway. These details are his later public account as reported by AP; they were not part of the October 2024 cancellation announcement.

The New World Tour was associated with Bando Stone & the New World. The Guardian’s 5 October 2024 report, carried by PA Media, described the tour as a farewell to Childish Gambino. That context does not change the reason Glover gave for canceling the remaining dates: he needed surgery and time to recover.
