If a prerecorded yoga video goes black when it reaches the end, first check the loop setting on the OBS source that feeds your stream: use Loop for a single Media Source file, or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video source. Then compare the OBS preview and a local recording with YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and the viewer-facing watch page. Those checks help locate where the picture disappears; the symptom alone does not identify its cause.
Check the loop control for the source you are actually using
A viewer-side YouTube repeat control is not what loops a prerecorded video being sent by an encoder. The repeat behavior is controlled by the source or playlist in the software feeding the live stream. In OBS, the relevant option depends on the source type.
For one video file: OBS Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene used for the stream and identify the source that plays the yoga video.
- Open that source’s properties and check Loop. OBS describes this setting as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed.
- Test the source through the end of the file and into the next playback. Confirm the picture returns in the OBS preview.
OBS documents the Media Source control in its Media Sources reference. A loop setting is not a guarantee of gapless playback in every setup.
For a playlist: OBS VLC Video source
- Confirm the scene uses a VLC Video source rather than a single-file Media Source.
- Open its properties and check Loop Playlist.
- Run the playlist through the end of an item and into the next item, watching the OBS preview.
OBS says VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source type to be available. Its documented settings are in the Media Sources reference.

Inspect what happens when playback ends
In the Media Source properties, check Show nothing when playback ends. OBS documents that this setting automatically hides the source after the file finishes. If the source is hidden at the end, that is relevant to the black screen; it does not, by itself, prove this is the cause or that changing it will fix every case.
Also check whether the source is visible in the active scene and whether scene or source activation behavior changes around playback end. Test the settings you change through a complete loop, rather than judging only from the first few seconds.

Find where the picture disappears
Compare the same moment—the end of the file and the start of its next pass—in each view. These observations narrow the next check but do not alone prove the root cause.

YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder’s own output, encoder errors, CPU load, and local archive. Run a controlled test before the next session
- Test the full video or playlist through its loop boundary before an event. Watch both the OBS preview and a local recording.
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test stream and wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before going live to viewers. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to wait for the preview to appear, then click Go live; see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Monitor audio and video quality while the test is running, including the transition back to the start of the yoga video.
- If YouTube reports a supported stream-format problem, check the format: YouTube identifies H.264 video and AAC audio as expected formats in its live encoder settings.
If OBS looks fine, check the outgoing connection
A loop-timed black screen does not prove that the network is at fault. If the OBS preview and local output remain healthy while YouTube’s incoming preview fails, check the Live Control Room’s stream-health messages, encoder errors, CPU load, and connection.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and notes that network disruption can break a stream. This is a recommendation, not a guarantee or proof that bandwidth caused a failure at the loop boundary. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Common symptoms and next checks
- Black screen exactly at the file’s end: verify the correct source’s loop setting and whether playback-end behavior hides it.
- Black screen only after a playlist item changes: verify that the source is a VLC Video source, that Loop Playlist is enabled where intended, and that VLC is installed.
- OBS preview stays visible, but YouTube’s preview fails: inspect YouTube stream health, encoder output and errors, CPU load, and upload connection.
- The symptom cannot be reproduced consistently: repeat a controlled test while comparing OBS, local recording, Live Control Room, and watch page at the same transition.
If these checks do not isolate the failure, note your encoder and operating system, source type, relevant OBS settings, and whether the black screen appears in the local preview, recording, YouTube preview, or only the watch page. Those details distinguish a source/scene issue from an output or delivery problem.
