First check whether YouTube ended the live broadcast or only the video stopped playing. If the broadcast is still active but the picture freezes or goes black, investigate the source or encoder output. If the broadcast itself ends, check YouTube Live Control Room settings and errors, then the encoder and its network connection. Those are different failures and need different fixes.
First identify what stopped
At the moment the picture stops, check YouTube Live Control Room and your encoder. Is the public live broadcast still active, or has YouTube ended it? YouTube’s live streaming troubleshooting guidance and encoder settings help describe broadcast status, encoder-linked controls, and stream errors that can help distinguish these cases.
- Broadcast active, picture frozen, black, or not advancing: check whether the media source or encoder has stopped producing video.
- Broadcast ended or encoder disconnected: inspect Live Control Room settings and errors, then encoder health and the network path.
The wording “after one video” does not establish whether you are streaming a local file or playlist, broadcasting gameplay directly, or referring to a YouTube replay. Use the observed status at the time of failure rather than assuming a cause.
If the video ends but the live broadcast stays up
A live broadcast can remain active even when the file or playlist being sent to it reaches its end. Check the streaming software’s media source or playlist settings for a loop or repeat option, and verify that the source is actually advancing. The correct control depends on the source type and software version; there is not enough information here to name a reliable OBS menu path for your setup.

- Confirm the file or playlist contains the videos you expect and that playback reaches the end rather than stopping because of a source error.
- Check the source’s repeat or loop configuration in your streaming software.
- Watch the encoder preview when the source stops. If the broadcast remains active but the preview is also frozen or black, continue diagnosing the source or encoder output.
If YouTube ends the broadcast or the encoder disconnects
Verify Live Control Room settings and errors
Check the specific broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room for stream errors and confirm its auto-start and auto-stop settings. YouTube documents these controls as ways to start or stop streaming from the encoder. Reused stream settings can copy those selections, so check the settings on the actual broadcast instead of assuming they are correct.
Check encoder health
YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that the encoder software is current, reviewing its dashboard and CPU load, checking a local recording for audio or video problems, and testing the outbound internet connection. These checks can help narrow down whether the problem is in the encoder, the media being sent, or the connection.

Use dropped frames as a connection clue
If you use OBS, its dropped-frames guidance says dropped frames mean the connection to the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Enough dropped frames can disconnect the stream. Treat that as evidence to investigate connection stability and whether the connection can sustain the bitrate—not as proof that every stream stoppage is a network fault.
Change format only when the error points there
If YouTube reports an incorrect-format error, its error guidance identifies H.264 video and AAC audio. Do not change codecs speculatively when the dashboard shows no format problem; first use the error actually reported for your stream.

Troubleshoot in this order
- When the problem occurs, check Live Control Room and the encoder. Record whether the broadcast is still active, whether the encoder is connected, and any error or dropped-frame message.
- If the broadcast is active, inspect source playback. Check whether the file or playlist reached its end and whether its repeat setting is enabled.
- If the broadcast ended, review the actual stream settings. Verify auto-start and auto-stop, including settings that may have been copied from an earlier broadcast.
- Review encoder health. Check for an available update, CPU load, encoder dashboard warnings, and audio/video problems in a local recording.
- Investigate the outbound connection if the encoder reports drops or disconnects. Compare the connection’s stability with the configured bitrate; do not treat a general playback-speed recommendation as a live-encoder requirement.
- Address format errors only if YouTube reports one. For the cited incorrect-format error, check for H.264 video and AAC audio.
