If your FFmpeg command places -stream_loop -1 before a single lesson file, FFmpeg is set to replay that input indefinitely. That option loops the file; it does not rotate through a library of lessons. This is the likely explanation, not a confirmed diagnosis of your setup: without your command, inputs, logs, and YouTube event details, other causes cannot be ruled out.
What -stream_loop -1 does
FFmpeg defines -stream_loop as the number of times an input is looped: 0 means no loop, and -1 means an infinite loop. In a command such as ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i lesson.mp4 ..., the option applies to the input file that follows it. If lesson.mp4 is the only lesson input, that same lesson repeats for as long as the output keeps running.
FFmpeg options generally apply to the next specified file, so placement matters. When inspecting your command, note each -i and the filename that follows it, then check whether a loop option appears before that input. Check the help or manual for the FFmpeg build installed on your system as well; builds and documentation can differ.
Does -re make FFmpeg repeat the lesson?
No. FFmpeg documents -re as reading input at its native frame rate, equivalent to -readrate 1. It paces file input for a live-style output; it neither chooses a different lesson nor cancels an infinite loop. Content selection and playback pace are separate decisions.

Choose the behavior you actually want
Keep one lesson running
An infinite loop on that lesson input is appropriate if your goal is to repeat that one file continuously.
Rotate among lessons
Use a workflow that selects multiple lesson files or a playlist. An infinite loop on one file cannot rotate through a collection. The exact correction depends on your current command, file names, formats, and whether audio and video tracks must stay synchronized, so there is no safe universal replacement command to give without those details.

Send prerecorded video at a live pace
Use -re when you need FFmpeg to read the input at its native frame rate. It affects timing, not which file plays.
Check FFmpeg first, then check YouTube
- Inspect the actual command. Find every
-i, identify the file attached to each input, and look for-stream_loop -1immediately before the lesson input it affects. - Confirm the intended content behavior. Decide whether the stream should repeat one file or rotate through several. If it should rotate, inspect the file-selection or playlist workflow and its logs instead of assuming the single-input loop explains every case.
- Test with representative material. YouTube recommends testing before going live, including audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Choose a quality your connection can reliably sustain.
- Monitor stream health during the event. That helps distinguish an input or encoder issue from an ingest or event-health issue; it does not change FFmpeg’s loop setting.
- Inspect the YouTube broadcast and stream separately if needed. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a broadcast—the watchable YouTube video—from a stream, the audiovisual transmission and its settings. Verify what FFmpeg is sending before treating the YouTube event itself as the source of repeated content.
Common causes and fixes
| What you see | Likely explanation | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The same lesson restarts repeatedly | A single input is configured with -stream_loop -1. |
Check the loop option’s position and the file following its associated -i. Use an input or playlist workflow that selects multiple lessons if rotation is intended. |
| The lesson plays at the wrong pace | Input pacing is being confused with content selection. | Check whether -re is needed to read prerecorded input at its native frame rate. It will not change the selected file. |
| The command appears to use several lessons, but content still repeats unexpectedly | The reason cannot be established from the title alone. | Review the actual input-selection workflow and logs, then verify what is being transmitted and inspect YouTube’s broadcast and stream state. |
| The YouTube event reports a stream-health problem | This is a separate diagnostic from whether an input is looped. | Test with representative audio and movement, select a quality your connection can sustain, and monitor stream health. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded lessons without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded video; it does not broadcast a live camera feed.

Share the FFmpeg command, the relevant log lines, and what you expected to play versus what played. Remove your YouTube stream key and any other credentials first.
