Fauziya “Ziya” Abashe filed a civil lawsuit in New Jersey in May 2024 accusing Livingston Allen, the media personality known as DJ Akademiks, of rape and defamation. The sexual-assault claims and the defamation claim are allegations in her complaint—not findings by a court. Allen has denied the accusations. The latest docket information available here lists a January 2026 discovery extension; a reported September 2026 extension remains unconfirmed.
Why did Ziya Abashe sue DJ Akademiks?
Abashe’s lawsuit accuses Allen of sexual assault, including rape, in connection with an alleged incident at his New Jersey home in July 2022. It also claims that Allen later defamed her through public comments about the encounter. The allegations were described in coverage of the complaint by Rolling Stone and The Washington Post.
According to Rolling Stone’s account of the complaint, Abashe alleged that she was invited to Allen’s home on July 16, 2022, and that two men she had not expected to be there drugged her drink and assaulted her. She further alleged that she later awoke in a bedroom with Allen, who assaulted her. These are Abashe’s allegations as reported from the lawsuit, not established facts.
The defamation claim
The complaint’s defamation theory concerns Allen’s later public description of the encounter. Rolling Stone reported that Abashe alleged Allen characterized her as having voluntarily had sex with his friends while saying he had not participated. The Washington Post reported that the suit linked the defamation claim to comments Allen made on social media around December 2023.

What has DJ Akademiks said?
Allen has denied the accusations. The Washington Post reported that he said police had cleared him and quoted him saying, “Whatever this is will be handled in court.” That is Allen’s account; it is not a court determination about the civil claims.
In a May 2024 livestream reported by Rolling Stone, Allen called the lawsuit a “shakedown” and a “money tree situation.” He also asserted that police had reviewed evidence and could not bring criminal charges. Those statements are his characterization of the matter, not an independent finding on the merits of Abashe’s lawsuit.

A social-media repost crawled in October 2026 describes a proposed discovery extension filed September 9, 2026, and gives proposed deadlines. Have criminal charges been filed, or has the civil case been decided?
The sources cited here do not establish a criminal charge, criminal conviction, civil liability finding, or final outcome in the lawsuit. The Washington Post said when it reported on the suit in May 2024 that it was unclear whether criminal charges had been filed. Allen said he was not at risk of arrest. Neither statement establishes the current status of any criminal matter, and neither resolves the civil case.
