Who was DJ Unk?
Platt was an Atlanta artist whose work crossed DJing, rapping and production. He became widely known for “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” records associated with Atlanta’s early-2000s snap scene. Pitchfork identified him with that scene and the two songs in its tribute to the artist.

From Atlanta DJ circuits to Big Oomp Records
AllMusic dates Platt’s record-spinning career to 1998. He joined the Southern Style DJs, led by DJ Jelly and DJ Montay, and worked parties, proms and pep rallies around Georgia. In 2000, Big Oomp Records signed him and helped develop his rhyming, according to AllMusic’s biography.
His debut album, Beat’n Down Yo Block!, arrived in 2006, the year “Walk It Out” brought him broader attention. AllMusic reports that the single reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned platinum certification. “2 Step” reached No. 24 and earned gold certification, according to the same biography. These chart and certification figures are attributed to AllMusic.
