Cody Johnson canceled the rest of his 2025 concert performances after rupturing an eardrum while battling a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection. He said the injury required immediate surgery and left him unable to sing during a recovery period expected to last many weeks.
Why did Cody Johnson cancel his remaining 2025 shows?
In a social media message reported by Houston Chronicle staff writer Sondra Hernandez on October 8, 2025, Johnson said the infection led to a ruptured eardrum. He announced the previous day that the remainder of that year’s concert performances could not go ahead.
“It is with a very heavy heart I have to share the remainder of this year’s concert performances will not be able to happen. While battling a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection, I burst my ear drum.”
Johnson said the rupture required immediate surgery. He explained that the healing process would take many weeks and that he could not sing during that time; without surgery, he said, his downtime could have lasted months. These are Johnson’s reported explanations for the cancellations, not a broader medical account of eardrum injuries.
