During A Minecraft Movie’s initial release in April 2025, some cinemas warned that disruptive audience behavior could lead to removal or even a halted screening. Reports linked the warnings to a TikTok trend around the film’s “chicken jockey” moment—but the response varied by venue, and some screenings were quiet.
What prompted the cinema warnings?
Reports described audience members shouting, cheering, clapping and throwing popcorn during screenings after a TikTok trend encouraged reactions to the film’s “chicken jockey” moment. The Guardian and The Independent covered the disruption and venue warnings in April 2025 (The Guardian, 9 April 2025; The Independent, 8 April 2025).

What measures did cinemas take?
Responses were venue-specific, not a single policy adopted by cinemas everywhere. The Guardian named several UK venues and reported different approaches:

| Venue | Reported response |
|---|---|
| Cineworld, Witney | Warned that antisocial behavior—including loud screaming, clapping and shouting—would not be tolerated. |
| The Radway, Sidmouth | Said people taking part in the social-media trend would be removed. |
| Reel cinemas, Fareham and Rochdale | Among the UK venues named in reports of warnings about disruptive behavior. |
| Regent Cinema, Newtown, Wales | Described a “zero-tolerance approach” and said a screening could be stopped if audience behavior went too far. |
The Guardian also reported a separate response in New Jersey. The Township theatre in Washington said minors would need to attend with a parent or responsible adult after what it described as an incident involving vandalism by unsupervised minors on 4 April 2025. That was the theater’s stated policy and characterization, not a national rule.
Did every screening become disruptive?
No. The Guardian described quiet early-afternoon screenings in Didsbury, Manchester. It also reported that Cineworld promoted designated fan-oriented showings where audience participation was invited within limits, including advice to 4DX attendees against excessive disruption and mess. This illustrates the distinction between an ordinary screening with conduct expectations and a fan-oriented event that allows some participation.

The reports do not establish how many screenings were disrupted, how widespread the behavior was, or whether warnings reduced incidents. Viral videos and examples from particular venues cannot show that the conduct was typical of audiences overall.

The warnings and New Jersey restriction were reported during the film’s initial release in April 2025. The contemporaneous coverage does not establish whether any individual venue kept those measures afterward, so they should not be treated as current policies without confirmation from that cinema.
