WWE’s December 2005 release notice did not state why Christy Hemme was leaving. Hemme said at the time that WWE told her she was a budget cut and that creative had nothing for her. In a 2016 interview, she later described being let go after refusing a request that conflicted with her morals. That later account is her explanation, not a confirmed statement of WWE’s formal reason.
What WWE’s release notice said
WWE’s archived notice said only, “WWE and Diva Christy Hemme have come to terms on her release.” It did not explain the decision. A contemporaneous report published on December 5, 2005, carried the same announcement. WWE’s release notice leaves the company’s rationale unstated.
Hemme’s explanation in December 2005
In a statement attributed to Hemme on her website and reproduced in a December 20, 2005 report, she said there had been “no battle over money.” She said WWE told her she was “a budget cut” and that creatively the company “didn’t have anything for me.” Hemme also said she had been dedicated to WWE and was disappointed by the decision. This is the clearest contemporaneous account of what she said the company told her; it is not a published explanation from WWE. PWTorch’s December 2005 report reproduced her statement.
What she said in a 2016 interview
In July 2016, Hemme offered a more personal account in an interview with Keven Undergaro on “The Tomorrow Show.” PWTorch quoted her saying she lived by her morals and would refuse a request that fell outside them: “So once I put that line down, that’s when I got the axe.” She did not identify the person involved or specify the request in the quoted excerpt. The account was reported as Hemme’s statement; the report did not independently verify the incident or establish that it was WWE’s formal reason for ending her contract. PWTorch’s July 2016 coverage quoted her interview.

Why Hemme’s WWE run drew attention
WWE’s profile says Hemme won the 2004 Raw Diva Search from a field of 7,000 women and received a WWE contract valued at $250,000. Those are biographical details, not evidence of why she was released. Her WWE appearances included Raw and SmackDown, a match at WrestleMania 21, and a winning match at No Mercy 2005, which WWE’s profile identifies as the finish of her WWE career. WWE’s Christy Hemme profile provides the career summary.

- Established: WWE announced Hemme’s release but gave no reason in its notice.
- Hemme’s 2005 account: She said WWE described the decision as a budget cut and said creative had nothing for her; she denied a money dispute.
- Hemme’s 2016 account: She said a refusal to do something against her morals preceded her being let go, without specifying the request in the quoted remarks.
- Not established: The available reporting does not independently corroborate the details of the later-described incident or identify it as WWE’s official rationale.
Contemporaneous wrestling reports also discussed contract negotiations, pay, training at Ohio Valley Wrestling, and travel. Those accounts do not establish a verified company explanation, and some conflict with Hemme’s statement that money was not the issue. They should not be treated as settled facts about the decision. WrestlingInc’s December 2005 report is an example of contemporaneous coverage, not confirmation of WWE’s reasoning.
