Country singer Chris Young was arrested in Nashville on January 22, 2024, during an encounter with Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents conducting compliance checks. He faced three charges: assaulting an officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk later said his office reviewed the evidence and would dismiss the charges.
What happened at the Nashville bar?
According to the arrest-affidavit account summarized by the Associated Press, agents checking compliance at Tin Roof asked Young to show identification. The account says Young questioned and recorded the agents, then he and others followed them into the neighboring Dawg House. The affidavit alleged that Young put his hands out to stop the agents and struck one on the shoulder; it also said the agent pushed him to create distance. These are allegations described in the affidavit, not findings established by a court. The Associated Press reported the affidavit’s account.

What was Chris Young charged with?
When the arrest was reported on January 23, Young had been charged with assaulting an officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The charges were allegations, not convictions. Young’s attorney, Bill Ramsey, said Young should not have been arrested and called for the charges to be dropped. AP reported the arrest and charges.
What did Young’s attorney say, and what did the videos show?
On January 24, WSMV reported that Ramsey had released incident video. Ramsey demanded that the agency drop the charges and apologize; that was the defense’s position, not an official finding about the encounter. WSMV reported on the video release and Ramsey’s response.

On January 29, WSMV reported additional security footage and described it as showing that Young did not hit the agent. That is the station’s description of the footage; it should not be conflated with a court ruling on the allegations. WSMV’s report on the additional video.

Yes. Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk announced on January 26 that the charges would be dismissed after his office reviewed the evidence. “After a review of all the evidence in this case, the office of the district attorney has determined that these charges will be dismissed,” Funk said. The Associated Press reported the decision the following day; Young’s attorney said he and Young were gratified. The announcement establishes that prosecutors decided to dismiss the charges after review, not that a court found every allegation false. AP reported the dismissal announcement.
