What happened in São Paulo
Videos circulated after Charli XCX’s PARTYGIRL DJ set at a São Paulo nightclub on Saturday, June 22, 2024, showing part of the crowd chanting “A Taylor morreu,” Portuguese for “Taylor died.” Reports published the following day describe the footage but do not establish how many people joined in. Variety, Exclaim! and The Standard reported on the incident.

What Charli XCX said
On Sunday, June 23, Charli posted a response in an Instagram Story. Her message read:
“Can the people who do this please stop. Online or at my shows. It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. I will not tolerate it.”

She directly asked people to stop the behavior both online and at her shows. This was a statement on Instagram Stories, not a reported onstage announcement. Variety and Exclaim! reproduced the wording.

Reports noted fan speculation linking Taylor Swift to “Sympathy is a knife,” a track on Charli’s 2024 album BRAT. That speculation is not confirmation that the song is about Swift, or that the song prompted the chant. The reporting does not establish a feud between the performers. Charli’s stated position on the incident was that the chanting ran counter to what she wanted in her community. The Independent and Us Weekly also noted that Charli had opened for Swift on the 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour; that background does not change the meaning of her 2024 message.
