The punchline turns his WWE taunt, “You Can’t See Me,” into an absurd claim that he is standing in a photo or scene even when nobody can spot him.
What does “You Can’t See Me” mean in wrestling?
In WWE, Cena’s phrase and hand gesture are a boast: he is so good, strong, or fast that his opponents cannot keep up with him. It is not originally a claim that he is physically invisible. USA Network describes the gesture as a staple of Cena’s wrestling character and explains that competitive meaning in its account of the gesture.
How did the taunt become an invisibility meme?
Online, people take the words literally. They pretend Cena is present in a picture or scene, then act as if he cannot be seen. The humor comes from the mismatch: Cena delivers a confident challenge, while the meme treats it as proof that he has vanished. Know Your Meme and Meme Encyclopedia both describe this invisible-Cena interpretation (Know Your Meme; Meme Encyclopedia).
Why is the gesture recognizable beyond WWE?
The gesture has appeared outside wrestling, too. USA Network documented Caitlin Clark using it during the 2023 women’s March Madness tournament and Angel Reese using it after LSU’s championship win. Those examples show how Cena’s taunt had become recognizable in a broader sports setting; they are not the origin of the meme.

What is known about the taunt’s origin?
WWE published a video titled “John Cena reveals the origin of ‘You Can’t See Me’”. Without a transcript or the video’s contents, the title alone does not establish the anecdote behind the phrase or the date of its first use, so a precise origin story should not be inferred from it.
